Built for the people who set the paper
MeritCount exists because a term exam that goes on a report card deserves more than a quiz app, and a quick class quiz deserves more than a worksheet.
Why we built it
Online quiz tools do one thing well: they ask questions and count the answers. That is fine for revision. It is not fine for the exams that count, because nobody knows what was happening on the other side of the screen.
So teachers ended up with two tools, two class lists and two sets of results, and the serious one was usually a PDF emailed back at midnight.
MeritCount is one place for both. The quiz is genuinely fun. The exam is genuinely checked. And the same roster, builder and marking run underneath.
The owl
Owls see what others miss and stay calm doing it. Ours keeps watch during exams so the teacher does not have to hover, and cheers during quizzes because someone should.
What we believe
Four things that decide how MeritCount is built, in the order we would defend them.
Flag, don’t accuse
A check produces a flag with a time, not a verdict. What it means is the teacher’s call, because the teacher knows the student.
Judgement stays with the teacher
We mark what a machine can mark. Written answers are marked by a person, with names hidden, and the AI only ever suggests.
Students should know the rules
Before a paper opens, students are asked to allow each check by name. Nothing is watched that they were not asked about, and nothing is recorded.
Free means free
A teacher with a few classes should never pay. Thirty new papers a year, every check and every marking tool included.
A note from the founder
MeritCount is a small, independent product built in Kashmir, India. It started as a tool for a handful of teachers who were tired of choosing between a quiz app their students liked and an exam process they could trust. If it is useful to you, or if something is missing, write to hello@meritcount.com. The founder reads every message.
